Today was Grant's first day back to swimming lessons after being sick for a few weeks. He had a great lesson and was even able to move up two class levels because he listened so carefully and was willing to try a few new things. Grant floated on his back, he tried a new breathing technique and even practiced putting his face in the water just like you would if you were swimming(this one needs a little work but he did well enough to pass.)
Grant was brave enough to hold on to the paddle board with one hand as his other hand made ice cream scoops in the water mimicking the swimming motion. It took a lot of courage for Grant to trust his teacher. He is very cautious by nature and really impressed me today because he was able to trust his teacher and relax.
Grant didn't seem to have any trouble floating on his back while kicking either once he got the hang of it. It took a little convincing at first but once he tried it he was able to keep going even though he was afraid. In his words, "I wasn't scared when I was done but I was scared at the beginning."I love watching Grant overcome his fears and make progress that he can be proud of. Next week he will have the opportunity to swim solo on his back and on his tummy. Wish us luck. This is pretty impressive since a few weeks ago he was scared to even put his face in the water. Go Grant. We are so proud of you!
This swimming lesson far exceeded my expectations. Did I say that I am so proud of Grant?
