Summer fun camp

Grant and Spencer are hosting a summer fun camp at our house this month.  They have planned 5 days of fun activities for kids in our ward between the ages of 5 and 10. On Monday the theme was water games. It went really well and here is a big shocker. I didn't get one single picture.
Today the kids did fort building.  The Fort building though quickly turned into a weapons fight where the only rule was that you couldn't "hit hard".  And that Corbin the little guy in the welding mask got 4 shots before he died and the rest only got 3.
Grant was sorely missed during the first 15 minutes of tent building as he wrapped up his morning chores. I am impressed with his desire and ability to lead in a compassionate, fun and fair way. I love him so much and feel very proud of him when I see how thoughtful he is of other kids...especially the little ones.
It makes me so sad to see my kids cooped up all day during the summer. It's hard to get to the pool with Josh and Kate so we came up with a way to get some play time in during the day that would also allow the boys to earn some money.
Grant really enjoys organizing activities for kids. I personally think he would make a wonderful teacher and or principal. He really enjoys watching a group having fun in an orderly way.
I read an article recently that talked about the reason why so many kids fidget and struggle with sitting still.  The main reason they are finding is because kids don't get enough time playing. They aren't out climbing trees and running, jumping, skipping and climbing. As a result their core strength is seriously underdeveloped and they are really struggling.  I think that's sad.

So I am trying to find a way to balance all the chores there are to be done and finding time for these kids to be kids. We have the greatest ward and such wonderful kids.
