Newborn Joshua by Valerie Christensen

A co-worker of Tyler's so generously offered a photo session with his very talented wife Valerie Christensen as a gift to us for Joshua. I was so excited!!! As you all know I love pictures. I expected that Joshua would have a hard time staying asleep and want to eat every two minutes. Thankfully I was wrong! Valerie had a little space heater that kept her studio nice and toasty warm. It worked like a charm and he slept nearly the whole time.  (Well, almost the whole time I fed him quickly halfway through then he went right back to sleep).

One of the most important things I wanted to capture was the cute little swirl on his head. I'm sure glad I did because just over a few weeks later its fading away.  I also love this first picture in his daddy's hands.
I love the way newborn babies look. I didn't capture his wrinkly peeling newborn fingers and toes at the hospital. I thought I'd do it when I got home. I had no idea I would be bringing him home over a week later. Life got nuts and taking pictures of newborn details went by the wayside in favor of sleeping, eating, and being with Joshua in the hospital.
Since he's been home I've wasted no time capturing all the little things that just don't last. Like my 10 year old Grant said this morning. He's only a baby for a year mom. You need to take more video of him. I'm planning on it. :)
This session made me really wish I had a studio. I think I would really like doing newborn photography.  Later, though...much later. For now I will just be a mom and figure out how to do that and find time to sleep and clean too.
Grant and Spencer brought these stuffed animals to Joshua in the hospital. They are really cute. Tyler thought the boys might appreciate it if the beloved turtle, giant eyed money and panda made an appearance in the photos. I'm so glad he thought of it.
I love that we were able to capture this sweet sleepy stage. Every day he seems to wake up a little more. He is even starting to lose that newborn smell. :(
He just started gaining weight when we had these photos taken. I love his double chin.
These pictures with the little bear type hat are Spencer's favorite. I kind of like them too.
What a sweet baby our Joshua Tyler Young is.
