Joshua is happy to be home. And we are happy to have him. Last night we enjoyed what felt like the first normal night in a really long time. No bed rest, no trips to the NICU, no sleep deprivation, no messy house, no tired kids. It felt like Heaven. Grant and Spencer happily did their homework, we had time to enjoy the baby together and everyone seemed content to just be together. We feel so blessed.
Joshua and I are still getting used to each other. He was on a sometimes bottle sometimes mom feeding schedule at the hospital that was really rigid. He seems to be enjoying a little more flexibility with the meal time thing. He especially appreciates being able to eat after 2 or 2 and 1/2 hours. I feel so much more rested than I have in a long time. Even when I was pregnant I didn't sleep well. Contractions woke me up at night. Joshua seems very aware that he is now a "wireless" baby. He likes to stretch out and kick. He seems to be fascinated by the new surroundings as well. When he is awake he peacefully gazes around taking in all the new sounds, smells and faces.
Grant is already making arrangements with his friends...well his best friend anyway to come over and visit his new baby brother. Yesterday when Tyler picked up the boys from school Spencer got really frustrated and said that he forgot to tell his teacher something. When Tyler asked what it was he said..Oh nothing. Tyler told him he could go back and talk to his teacher if he needed to. So they did. Spencer in a whisper voice tried to get his teachers attention then said..."My baby brother's home!" Then he skipped off to the car to go home. :)
I love taking care of baby Joshua. He is a really sweet little boy. He likes to eat, make dirty diapers, look around, and be held. I can tell he didn't have a lot of holding time in the NICU other then when we were there. Tyler mentioned how much more awake, alert and content he seems at home. He joked that it wasn't worth being up there. I think I agree. He hated the bright lights, the noises, the beeping monitors, the wires, all of it.
Now we just need to find a way to get everyone we love here to see for themselves just how cute our Joshua is.
