Thanksgiving prep started several days ago and here are a few pictures showing the events leading up to the big day. The top picture is Josh oohing and aahing over the pie I made for Grant's class party with the apples from our back yard. Turns out those apples we left on way past the time we should have are really outstanding.
This is a picture of Spencer in the costume he wore at school (his teacher made them for everyone) for his Thanksgiving celebration. The entire first grade got together in the morning for a "friendship breakfast." They all wore their pilgrim gear. I wish I would have made it down to take a picture and see how cute they all were.
Tyler and the boys went out for a few hours this morning while Tyler played in the Turkey bowl for our ward. I guess one of the teams was stacked with Italians. (Our bishop Giancarlo Pesci had family in town) The kids played on the playground during the game and had a really nice time. They played five square with a few others from our ward. Grant specifically mentioned Shelby and Serena. Josh and I stayed home and tried to tie up all the loose ends...and there were many that's for sure. We made another batch of rolls since the ones I made the day before bombed. Josh was really helpful and napped while I worked. Very helpful! Once the boys got home we watched a little of the Macy's day parade. Josh and Spencer really got into it. Then we caught up on Studio C. Very funny. ( I watched while I cooked)
Dinner started about 2:45 and lasted about 15 minutes. Crazy how that happens. My gravy was darker than usual this year but still pretty good. I made turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, regular and gluten free stuffing, yams, corn, rolls and of course we had to have the yummy out of the can cranberry jelly sauce stuff. SOOOO good. We drank a combination of drinks, Sprite, ginger ale, Martinelli's apple/ grape (my favorite) and Martinelli's apple. I ate way too much and even after I was full I just kept eating. So did Tyler. We all wanted to just lay around for a while and recover. Oh wait that was just Tyler and I. They boys were hyper and happy.
Josh keeps ending up with his pants off lately. With all of his walking and climbing and crawling I guess they just slip off.
He sure keeps us on our toes. There is no such thing as sitting still for him. He has places to go now that he can walk.
Spencer's "photo bomb"...he didn't realize he was meant to be in the picture. He likes to "photo bomb" so I let him think he was.
So the pie you see here is a gluten free pie. The crust was heavenly! Like normal pie. I was so very happy eating it.
I just like this picture because josh is cute watching everyone eat. He loved the mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce and whipped cream the best out of everything today. :)
Spencer requested cherry. He cried when I told him it wasn't low-fat after he asked. It broke my heart. I told him that the entire meal was so that he could have a whole piece of his cherry pie that he requested. He felt better after that.
And finally the epic fail of the night. Grant requested a chocolate silk pie. The chocolate part did not set up like it was supposed to...I said I was never using that recipe again and Tyler made fun of me for saying it was the recipe's fault. I too frequently verbalize a pet peeve of mine to Tyler...people blaming everyone and everything else for their problems. I guess it came back to haunt me when I blamed the recipe. Mean I know. I need to change. I am guessing this was more of an operator error than a recipe error. (I am still not using this recipe again.:))

Before the pie the boys went to their dad's house for an hour or so to have a little taste of their dinner too. Grant reported back that they had "HONEY HAM". I am jealous about that. I love ham.
Once the boys were home we played a funny game called, "What would you rather?" It's completely silly and asks you to choose between doing two ridiculous or gross things. The boys think it's a riot. It can be pretty fun. Next, Tyler and I washed the many dishes while the boys watched Disney's a Christmas Carol and then it was pie time. I realize I already talked about the pies and showed the pictures out of order. Sorry. All in all it was a wonderful day. Wonderful to be with my boys and to have time at home to create memories together. We missed our families for sure but it was so very nice to have this time together with just our little family. I am so grateful that because of our Savior Jesus Christ we can be together forever. We have so very many gifts and I hope to always remember to count my many blessing and give thanks to my father in Heaven.
