First day of School

In order to get clothes together, breakfast eaten, lunches made and Tyler out the door at a reasonable time we had to get started pretty early this morning. Tyler was on clothing, breakfast, carry the non-listening kid to the shower after repeated atempts to get him there via his own feet, and bringing me the supplies to make the lunch seated at the table patrol. It was a crazy morning to be sure. I think we worked well together though. Everyone left the house clean, dressed, fed and I hope happy. Grant wasn't feeling so well in the morning but by the time we got to the gate and say goodbye he seemed to be doing much better. Spencer on the other hand was very very excited about the day. Grant had to be dropped of at school this morning by 9:00 am. His dad met us at the gate to walk him to his line-up spot since I am still out of order.
After that Spencer and I went home till 1:00pm when it was time for him to start half-day kindergarten. After such a long morning and being up on my feet more than I should have been I was so excited to get home and lay down. Spencer in the meantime asked me nearly every hour if it was time to go to school yet. :)  Once the time came for us to leave for school he was more than ready. As we walked out the door to leave I heard him reciting a few of the instructions he had heard thruought the day under his breath. In fact he smiled and sang the whole way to school.

Things changed a little--like I thought they would--once we got to the school. Just like his mother he became very serious the moment reality sunk in. Whenever something new is about to happen a very serious I'm not sure what's happening mood seems to strike in both of us. Spencer claimed that he was fine and that he wasn't nervous but again like his mother he tends to wear his emotions pretty clearly on his face. My heart went out to him but I knew he would be fine once he becomes familiar with the routines and what was expected of him. The unkown can be very scary...especially when you are just five. I can't wait to hear about how it all went.
Here is one more of my handsome fourth grader Grant. He was such a help giving Spencer pointers for school. It's nice to have an older more experienced brother to show you the ropes. I'm glad they have each other.
Spencer's attempt at smiling...I have a feeling there was a big lump in that throat of his. What a cute, cute boy!
