One of those days

my boys are making a mother out of me little by little. just this afternoon my little grant made some lemonade, kindergarten-style. fresh lemons squeezed straight into our sugar jar. then he added water to drown out the sticky goo. adoreable, sugar-coated, clumsy fingers are the very best for delivering tasty homemade treats to mom (take notes kids!). on those precious, sticky fingers, chocolate was slathered like a thin layer of lotion. the chocolate, i discovered later, was for another homemade delicacy--a dipping sauce for apples and pretzels. taking a horizontal instead of vertcal approach, as is the custom, to his apple coring effort, little grant left every apple in the house with a hole through the middle that would be the envy of any local worm. supremely satisfied with the results of his apple-coring ingenuity, little grant felt compelled to alert the local news stations about the sheer fabulousness of his performance. he also urged me to notify ABC.com. seriously.

ultimately, both treats--the lemonade and chocolate dipping sauce complete with apples were generously offered to me. during this time of culinary discovery and accomplishment, spencer (who self-identifies presently with kitties) awoke from an afternoon slumber. beckoned by the sounds of fun-making in the kitchen, he navigated the stairs in search of his brother "dant." before reaching the kitchen, his bleary pair of sweet dark eyes sparkled upon spotting a neglected five-pound bag of sugar. pitter-patter went the little feet in record time to the forbidden, but forgotten, bag of bliss. after filling his tummy, he came to me proudly wearing cheeks freshly dusted with sugar crystals. a sweet sight, just begging to be kissed.
at the end of the day, in my foggy, exhausted mind, it felt far better to smile and simply enjoy my little boys. their delightful mischiefs slipped my mind as i ended the day with them giggling under my arms and pretending to be my little chicks and i was so very happy to be their mother hen. Love to catch glimpses into your busy life with my grandkids as I'm feeling very empty nested. Love to relive the good ole days thru my daughters journey of raising her little chicks! Keep the memories coming my way:)

Wow Kristie. You're making the rest of us look bad. I probably would have blown my lid at one more mess to clean up! Sorry I don't comment a lot, but I check your blog all the time!
