Lemonade Stand

Grant has been working very hard this week at trying to get the kindergarten rules down. One of the rules, predictably, is to follow directions. Grant has really struggled with this one and has had a few frowny faces on his little report card. Today, he had a personal best of "the straight face," which means that he was 50/50 for following directions.

As for the other rules, we're seeing gradual improvement as well. In fact, today he was able to get all straight faces and a few smiles. It was a full-on NO FROWNY FACE DAY!!!!!! Congratulations, Grant (or "Matthew" as he demands to go by at school). When Grant gets Smiley Faces, he earns predetermined privileges. When there aren't a lot of Smiley Faces, you have to get a little flexible with the rules. Therefore, as of a few hours ago, three Straight Faces equal one Smiley Face. His haul for the day: he earned supplies to have a lemonade stand (a long-standing wish of Grant's), morning play time with Mom and Dad, and play time at the park after dinner.

Grant is trying so hard to make steady progress each day. Reading the Book of Mormon as a family each day seems to be the ticket for Grant. He is really inspired by Nephi, Captain Moroni, and Helaman. Thank goodness for that great book! And thank goodness for a boy who loves to read it and wants to follow the prophets. He has such a good heart. I love him to pieces.

Grant and Spencer enjoyed a little bit of lemonade themselves.
Anna, our next door neighbor, joined in and even rode her bike up and down the street advertising for Grant.
The first customers were a few nice construction men. They stopped and complimented Grant and Anna on being willing to work and even gave a tip. Yahoo!
Anna's cousin brought over a dog in the meantime and Spencer really got a kick out of him.
The lemonade stand was a success. Grant was able to earn $3.00. I was able to teach him about tithing, savings and paying your helpers. It turned out to be a wonderful experience and Grant was even left with $2.00 to save up for the Lego sets he has had his eye on.

We're looking forward to a great year of Smily Faces and lemonade stands.
We are so proud of you Grant. Congrats again. Love You!!!
