Labor Day 2008!!

Labor day started early at our house this year. Grant our little rooster wanted to know at about 6:00 A.M. when it would be time for our wii tournament to start. We did promise him that for Labor day we would have a wii tournament as a family, however, I didn't dream of starting at six a.m. and so with very tired eyes--just barely open--I made Grant promise me to go back to his room for a little while so we could get a little more sleep. He did thank goodness and I think I was able to sleep a little more--or maybe Matt did and I got up with the boys...I can't remember.

Before the tournament got underway and after breakfast, we went outside and enjoyed a nice early fall morning; the sun was shining all warm and cheery, a slight breeze was in the air and the conditions were just right for a lazy unhurried morning, so... we watered the grass, picked weeds, listened to Grant's amazing ideas, and played cars with Spencer--his new favorite thing; next to "Bidabah" (Spiderman). It was just a perfectly beautiful relaxed morning in our yard.

After our relaxed yard excursion we went in for an eventful morning round of Wii. It all started with bowling where I somehow managed to win the first game...via Matt. I actually spent my time in the kitchen cutting watermelon. Matt won the second game of bowling. Then, we moved on to baseball; where Matt and Grant tied.

Then, I made history in the next game...(in our house anyway) when I GOT A HOLE IN ONE in golf!!!! I was so proud of myself and I don't even have a picture to prove it either. Matt and I continued to stay within a few points of each other the whole game until the end when he cheated...ok, so he didn't cheat but I felt like he did. I was certain with that spectacular first few holes that I had it made. I was sorely mistaken and the loss really hurt.

While we Wiied to our hearts content Grant kept us laughing with his funny comments. Here are a few I wrote down. To Matt, "Not bad for an adult.", and "Not bad for a non-athlete."

After the morning round of the tournament we made some quesadillas for lunch and then headed out for a bit of water T-ball. This peice of water sports equipment is worth it's weight in gold--so is the wii for that matter. Grant is in Heaven whenver we get this t-ball game out. He can run, jump, splash, just go plain crazy and its ok. He can make a mess, yell, and get all wet and dirty. Matt and I had a great time with it as well.
Matt was a little hesitant at first. The hose water is so cold, I don't blame in. Grant ofcourse was happy to plunge in face first and get the ball for him.Like I mentioned before Grant loves this Game and it is such a pleasure to watch him relish in the wet, crazy, messy, fun.
Spencer was not feelin' it...he was perfectly content to be a ball retriever.
He stayed as far way from the water as possible.
Matt pulled out the big guns and whacked the ball so hard he caved it in twice. He is so strong! AHHHHH.
Matt thought Spencer should give it a go but after a minute he was outie.
Off to retrieve another ball. My turn came to try and hit that darn ball. The water pressure keeps it up in the air bouncing making it much trickier than you would think to hit the crazy thing. I finally made contact with the ball and wouldn't you know it skimmed past Grants ear hurting him pretty bad and almost blasting the lens off of our camera while Matt was trying to take my picture. Grant told me that I was never allowed to touch this game again. He said, "get that thing (the bat) away from her dad." Oops!!

There is our beautiful six year old boy lovin' the weather and the family fun!
After we wrapped up the t-ball game we tried to clean the garage...that lasted about fifteen minutes before we were back to the Wii tournament.
We picked back up with tennis enjoying a rare treat watching Grant play. He wacks his racket around randomly in the air and miraculously returns the ball. He has special skills.
Yes, that is ironing in the background. I was supposed to be working on it. It is actually for the Newson's and the Camp's.
Not the most flattering face I have ever made.
That would be a home run hit by Matt; the sexy, baseball man; who plays in his painting clothes.
He was very happy with his home run hit.
I couldn't be outdone so sitting in a chair with poor form I smacked out my own home run.
After the wii tournament a handy man stopped by and fixed all of our annoying little problems, like the shower caulking that had turned black, our broken double door glass shower, towel racks that had come un-done, leaking sink, etc., etc., While the handy man worked his magic Spencer kept us entertained with his cuteness.

So there you have it--Labor Day 2008 with the Holland Family!!!

Looks like you had great fun- and what a lovely house you have! Every time I read your blog it makes me miss you more! We definately need to come up with a plan to meet up sooner rather than later!

That sounds like such a great day. Some of our greatest days are when we are simply just together. It doesn't really matter what we are doing, as long as we are doing it together. Also, you boys are very beautiful!
