So many people have asked me this question over the years. It seems to be coming up a lot lately so here it is a small glimpse into my life and what I do all day!
These are in no particular order. If anything, they are backwards.
*take kids for walks.
I try and figure out if I should say anything to Grant about his choice of body parts to fall asleep looking at. Should we get rid of the children's anatomy book? (Yikes)
I find Grant laughing and egging Spencer on as he squeezes the water from a wash cloth onto the floor over and over again.
I hear the next door neighbor call over the fence to Grant and ask if he wants fresh sand for his sandbox. Apparently, this is his holiday job. Shoveling a giant mountain of sand, wheel barrow by wheel barrow into his aunts back yard (have I mentioned our neighbors are amazing.)
I get the opportunity to teach Grant that he needs to help Matthew if he wants fresh sand. Also the satisfaction of seeing Grant interact with and admire incredible big kid role models like Matt and our other neighbor Trevor.
I brush teeth several times a day and have to face a crying baby who acts as if I am trying to torture him; screaming, kicking and crying the whole time.
I rub baby legs in preperation for nap time.
I play "eensy-weensie" spider over and over again, clapping like mad each time like it was the first time we ever played.
I then have the privilidge of taking my happy, loved, baby and putting him into his crib twice a day for a nap, frequently getting this response because he doesn't know it is good for him yet. (Actually Spencer usually goes down quite well for his naps, but Grant didn't)
I clean bathrooms--bathrooms a 5-year old little boy uses.
I take clothes out of the dryer, sometimes I fold them immediately and sometimes I stack them up on our bed thinking I will get right to them. Ha-Ha!
I remember that I need to deliver the invitations for the upcoming Stake Relief Society meeting to my visiting teachers and, oops, I need to make those appointments.
I try and change clothing and diapers without big tears--rarely happens.
I clean up messes just like this after breakfst, lunch and dinner.
I load and unload the dishwasher twice a day.
I try and keep the sink looking like this throughout the day, although after preparing for dinner you would never guess it has ever been clean.
I try and get my kids to eat these and for the most part they do a good job since I don't offer an alternative.
I try and teach table manners. I wipe dirty faces probably 12 times a day, 2 kids x 3 meals, 2 snacks and 1 dessert.
I corner this naked baby who likes to steal the toothpaste and tooth brushes if they are not put up out of his reach
I get to find little treasures like this from time to time. I left a pile a socks out that I had been working on and came back to find that Grant had obviously tried to help without me even having to ask. I kept the unmatched socks together so I would remember how cute Grant is sometimes.
Like I said this is just a tiny glimpse into my day.
I didn't mention that I cleaned both bathrooms today, washed 3 loads of laundry, windexed as many windows as possible, swept and mopped all the floors in our house, cleaned the laundry room, top of washer, dryer , floor and baseboards. Vacuumed every room in our house. Organized my bulletin board, updated my calendar, threw out old announcements, watered and dusted the plant. Dusted the computer armoire, desk bookshelves and entry shelve and mirror.
I am keeping a record of our life for posterity. I am planning on still showering for the day, making dinner, cleaning up after dinner (with my husband, of course), having a family home evening that, oops, we haven't even prepared yet. We know the topic, though, and that's good. After FHE we will repeat the same words that are said every night, "If you do everything we say quickly and get ready for bed like you should you can have 15 minutes of storytime.
After storytime (rarely happens) we say family prayers and then the kids go to bed. Once the kids are in bed the real work begins. I usually pick something to unclutter or organize. I check e-mail, friends blogs, read scriptures, pay bills with Matt, excercise (well at least I want to excercise) and finally I go to bed way too late. Then I wake up between 12 a.m. and 2 a.m. to feed Spencer. I brush and floss his teeth, put him back to bed and then sleep for about 4 more hours.
So really to answer the never-ending question--not much really!
I wouldn't trade it for the world.
