Matt and I decided to take Grant and Spencer to Disneyland and give them a "BUZZ" Christmas.
Disneyland was fabulous and it will have it's own post a bit later. In the meantime, here's what we did for Christmas presents for Grant and Spencer at the Happiest Place on Earth:
There is a store full of Buzz Lightyear merchandise right at the exit of the Buzz Lightyear ride. Grant calls this ride "New Buzz" because we tricked him a couple years ago into thinking the Rockets ride outside was the Buzz ride. That probably sounds mean, but we were in a big hurry at the time and couldn't wait for the new Buzz ride that had just opened. Hence, Grant now calls the Rockets "Old Buzz" and the real Buzz Lightyear ride, "New Buzz." We went on "New Buzz" quite a few times as this was, by far, Grant's favorite ride. If we'd let him, he probably would have just gone on that ride over and over again, skipping every other ride. This didn't exactly make sense to us, since he was petrified of the villain, "Zurg," and hid in the bottom of the cart throughout the entire ride while Matt shot at the enemy aliens. At any rate, we ended up spending A LOT of time in the store at the end of "New Buzz" as well.
On Christmas Eve, Matt and I excitedly--and very sneakily--found all of the Buzz Lightyear items that Grant had been eyeing. At first, we had just a few things picked out. Then we got a little carried away. I felt happier and happier as I secretly delivered each item to Matt as he stood at the counter trying to pay without being discovered by Grant. Each time I added a new toy to the small pile, I mentally adjusted our budget and erased something I had otherwise planned to do with that money. Grant ended up with about 7 Buzz Lightyear items, including socks, new PJs, action figures, a suitcase, a wallet, a T-Shirt and remote control aliens. Spencer made out with a T-Shirt just like his big brother's, a cool Buzz Lightyear cell phone, and several Toy Story plush toys. Sneakily shopping for the boys was fun to do, but difficult to conceal from Grant on the walk back through Main Street USA, to the trams and on to the hotel room. Fortunately, the extra baby blankets we'd brought with us were just large enough to cover the big Disney bags we were lugging out.
Leaving the store that night, we were again reminded of how sweet Grant is. Despite believing that he was not getting anything that night for himself, he was thrilled to see the other kids in the store leaving with their cool action figures, t-shirts, necklaces, toys, etc. He was really happy to see what the other kids were getting and was delighted to see how happy the other kids were. It really was very sweet. He's a dear, dear boy.
