Our Day

I read to Grant the Walrus and the Carpenter (this is a really fun poem, Grant loved it), by Lewis Carrol and then sang "I Wonder When He Comes Again" from the childrens songbook.

I asked Grant to tell me what the difference was between the two sets of words and he said to my suprise, "The song is holy and it makes me feel happy and full of joy." My intention in asking this question was to find out if Grant understood that words can make us feel lots of different ways. I mentioned that we can use words to make those around us feel good or bad and that some words have been arranged into a story and some have been arranged to make a poem, a song, a letter, etc.

I wanted him to understand the difference beween literature and scripture and between a song and a hymn. And the great purpose for both. Ultimately, that the scriptures and hymns are different and special. I am so happy that he was able to feel the spirit when we sang the hymn today and when we read the scriptures each day and learn about sacred words verses secular words and how each have a very imporant but different place in our lives.

It was really just an impromtu thought that I acted on that turned out to be a really special teaching moment. I don't always catch such moments but I am glad I did today.

As for the rest of our day.

I picked some pretty roses from the front of our house.

Then, Grant and I loaded the dishwasher.

Spencer made a trail of wipes down the hallway

I found laundry from yesterday to fold.

I cleaned the rest of the kitchen and mopped the floor.

Our wiggly Grant has managed to single handedly wear out all but two of our white chairs that go with our table(side note didn't happen today.) They were garage sale finds.

I am hoping to end the day with a shower.

I hope you got a shower -- and if not, there's always tomorrow!

What a sweet teaching moment with Grant. I've decided that's one of the main reasons moms need to stay home with their kids, just to be around when those type of opportunities arise.

Love the pics of Las Vegas.
